The final days on the trail…

The last three weeks have been spent on the campaign trail. Bob and I did stories on DeLay’s seat in Sugar Land — which by the way looks remarkably similar to Reston, VA, a little to well planned out — the Texas governor’s race, the Pennsylvania Senate race, the Ohio DeWine Senate race and the congressional race between Mary Jo Kilroy and Deborah Pryce (for which, as of this writing, votes are still being counted).

It’s been an amazing few weeks. Fun, intense, and incredibly interesting. Speaking to candidates outside Washington DC makes them human. I really believe that the marbled hallways of Capitol Hill force a personality change. When they leav DC they become real people with — many times — exceptional qualities that make them stand out whether they be Democrat or Republican.

Casey, who beat out Santorum (check out www.santorum.com for some good but gross laughs), from Pennsylvania is a major stiff, Sekula Gibbs had personality but lost to another stiff, Nick Lampson (but she really lost bc of Tom DeLay), Mike DeWine took a “thumpin'” to an energetic and charismatic Sherrod Brown. All diverse races, all great experiences and no matter what, people couldn’t do enough for us whether they worked on the campaign or not. That’s what makes my job fun.
